READING AND JOURNALING
I sometimes wonder how come I have so much enthusiasm for reading these days.
Reading didn't seem like something really exciting at first
Especially anytime I picked up a book and saw countless pages of text without pictures.
I immediately felt bored, nothing instigated the will to start reading the first page and then
maybe continue to the next.
I can't remember exactly how I ended up in this stage of my life where, every now and then I
want to pick up a book about this or that and then start reading all about it.
It seems to me, I always have to develop a reason to pick up a book, and that reason might be the
fact that I want to get to know about something I like.
Or maybe just to have fun, imagining stuffs and as excited I am about movies, its cool sometimes
to picture a whole movie in your head while just reading words.
It is exciting to see words come alive the way they do, when you pick up a piece of story or novel.
I think this is why I have come to develop that enthusiasm for reading, because somehow I
have come to develop a passion for pursuing knowledge, maybe I have also come to understand reading is one of the most wonderful ways of exploring answers, as it is in answering all those questions that pop up every now and then in my head.
Not long ago, I wrote various essays in class without punctuations, or paragraphs. My writing was not coherent; ideas didn't just follow suit and everything was just so mixed up. I could barely understand what I wrote sometimes, because it was never me behind that paper, it was the rules of grammar. I had in mind where to put punctuations, and how to make complete paragraphs.... I never concentrated on my writing but rather how to make these technicalities come out right in my writing.
It was difficult , because I always feared that a punctuation was not right or it wasn't yet time to give a paragraph. Thinking about all these, I never produced any essay that was good enough for my class.
Time went by and somehow I saw my father's journals and decided to do writings like that.
In my journal, that piece of book, I wrote anything I wanted however I wanted .There were
absolutely no restrictions at all.
It was all me, with no grammar restrictions, no need worrying about punctuations, paragraphs and all the other technicalities.
When I came alive, my writings did the same and I found more ways to put more life into my
writing and make it flow the way I felt , so the punctuations came out right and the paragraphs did too.
Your writing will only come alive when you come alive, your words will only be unleashed when you are unleashed. There is no need to keep a cap on how you wish to express yourself ,set yourself free .
When you are free, your writing will also flow freely.
Writing, has become a real tool for me, ever since I realized what it really was , your energy at a point in time transmuted to paper; pure, true and free abounding with life.

keeping journals.........
Though praised several times for writing good essays, especially stories, I never thought of
deserving such acknowledgments. After all it was always easy describing pictures I created in my mind.
Imagination, imagination is everything!
I spent few minutes to picture a story, and then I write.
Later I had to do same when I was not writing essays but writing about my environment on my own.
Most people have peculiar reasons for keeping journals. I never had one.
All I did was to write about the best moments in every single day I spent.
I tried to write about beautiful things that transpired in a moment with the family or my friends.
There was simply no need for grammar to express a witty talent in my journal.
In simple language, I wrote about the special moments.
Whenever I was lonely, I pulled the journal out to read page after page.
Usually I would realise I was laughing while I wrote and laughing as I read.
Each piece of note had a date and time of occurrence and even sometimes the weather
condition.
I was able to relive these good old days I wrote about whenever I read them.
I could feel everything present and see the people around me when all that had happened.
It was a time machine to me for I could go to the past to experience all those moments again and again.
Journal-ling to me never concerned books.
It was even later I realized I had a peculiar reason too, it was to keep me happy when I was
gloomy.
If those pieces were able to make me relive past moments then I know when you keep journals about what you read you could also exist in the books once more when you read the little journal about each chapter.
It will be the best form of revision one can ever have if one can replace the best moments I had in a day with the core ideas in a chapter.
Scribbling in a torn jotter will be the worst one can do, usually those scribbles end up in a dust bin.
Journaling is the best way you can ever spice up your reading attitude.
My reading has long ago been quite subject oriented.
Its always about science.
I was still successful because science is all I was passionate about.
The purpose of my reading was never to pass examinations but to do something personal with what I read.
I had a purpose for myself, not a purpose from the school.
Our reading ability is like filling a cup with a substance.
Its always about what the cup can carry and never what it is made of.
If you fill the cup with the right substance it never gets full to the brim.
You keep filling and filling.
On the contrary if you fill it with a wrong substance it gets full so quickly.
You will be left with no reason to fill.
Each of us has this cup and its our mind. What it can carry is what we are passionate about.
So when we read about things we love, we always feel there is this last thing we need to know.
We are always in a state of curiosity and wanting to know more about what we are passionate.
Rather when we give more focus in reading what we don't want because we just think its good to
know, we lose the reading spirit so fast. This is how come most people begin reading certain
books but fail to finish them. Its simple, they just don't like what they read.
I think you ought to pick a book after picking a passion.
This is one of the things we wish to teach the children.
Why they should read and why they should write.
Read with the aim of wanting to fulfill the wanton to know
And write about how you feel about what you have read.
What you think about what you read, what you think is missing, and maybe what you think
you've discovered.
In doing this the knowledge of what one reads comes alive.
It is important to always put those feelings to words, to transmute that energy unto paper.
